Separation!
Two colleagues connect over a mutual experience.
Huddled under the steeled canopy, the overtime staff waited for the supervisor to arrive, whose lateness drew ire from the restless crowd.
‘He’s always the same’, said one voice.
‘Was probably on the lash again last night and forgot to get up!’ another piped up.
‘Did someone ring him yet?’ A voice rose amongst the din of restless workers.
‘I did, and no reply. Two of us will go down to his house and see if we can wake him! Time is slipping by, we can’t have that!’
A little orderly calm washed over the dozen or so that remained as they sheltered from the cold, westerly wind as it roared its way across the bleak March morning sky.
One of the women sat regally on an old, rickety plastic chair and, without invitation, launched herself into conversation with one of her male colleagues beside her.
‘Does all that running you do help with anxiety?
‘I’m not sure.’ he replied. ‘I suppose it helps if you are. It all depends on how anxious you are. Are you suffering from anxiety at the moment?’He asked.
After taking a long draw from her vape and exhaling a colourful, fruity breath skyward, she replied, ‘ Yes, I am.’
